Civil Legal Aid assures fairness for all in the justice system, regardless of one’s financial status.  Memphis Area Legal Services, Inc.(MALS) assists people of all backgrounds and ages, including families, children, veterans, seniors, ill or disabled people and women or men who are victims of domestic violence.  They often find themselves adrift in the judicial system at risk of consumer fraud, foreclosure, eviction and denial of veterans and public benefits – to name a few.  MALS provides access to legal help for people to protect their livelihoods, their health and their families.  Even though we close nearly 4,000 cases every year, sadly still too many people are turned away due to resource limitations.  Read about some of our client stories.

Supporting the Campaign for Equal Justice:

Access to legal services is important to all members of our community but without legal help, the most vulnerable members of our community – women, children and the elderly – find themselves adrift in the judicial system.  You can help with a donation today.  Learn moreabout the Campaign for Equal Justice.

Donating Time:

Learn how attorneys, law students and paralegals volunteer time and provide pro bono assistance to clients through several initiatives.  To volunteer to pro bono client services, complete a Volunteer Enrollment Form and fax to (901) 843-2930.  To volunteer time providing clerical, administrative and other program support, please contact Loretta Stubbs at lstubbs@malsi.org.

Donating in-kind services, products or equipment:

MALS accepts donations of all kind to carry out its mission. We are in need of varying in-kind services for events that occur throughout the year.  Services relating to development and production of marketing and public relations materials, media (video) production, printing and event planning are of particular need in the preparation of these events.  On an ongoing basis MALS also seeks partners to provide in-kind services such as court reporting, interpreting and translation services, professional consulting, and training.  Donations of office furniture, technological equipment, business products and office supplies are always welcomed.  To provide in-kind services or donate products, supplies or equipment, please e-mail Julie Lauber, Executive Assistant and Marketing Specialist at jlauber@malsi.org
