Doctors, Lawyers and Students Team Up to Help Le Bonheur Patients
The Children’s Health Law Directive, known as Memphis CHiLD, is a partnership between Le Bonheur, Memphis Area Legal Services, and the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphrey’s School of Law.
Community’s Social Ills Require a Communal Effort
Finding concrete solutions to the “why” is the goal of the ACE Task Force. ACE stands for Adverse Childhood Experiences, a study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Kaiser Permanente in San Diego. The long-term research found that “toxic stress” of childhood experiences of neglect, abuse and family dysfunction are major risk factors for leading causes of illness, death and a poor quality of life.
Leah Roen is in her first week as the new director of pro bono services for Memphis Area
Legal Services (MALS), and she’s already forging new partnerships that will bring legal
advice and support to those who need it most.
Residents of Orange Mound received a legal lifeline Wednesday after lawyers provided free legal services to those in the area. Seniors at the Orange Mound Community Center were grateful to receive the services because sometimes having an attorney or legal representation is just as nice as having a family member on your side.
